Our weekend trip to Tennessee was fun, except for the fact that the Dawgs got stomped. We are doing awful this year!
The cute “red” dress I ordered to wear to the game ended up being more orangey than red, so that meant I couldn’t wear it on Saturday since UT’s color is orange. Oh well, I wore it Sunday and it was still cute!
This weekend we are going on a work retreat to our mountain client. It’s going to be a lot of fun, but it is going to be freezing up there. The highs are in the upper 40’s and the lows in the 30’s…brrr. Hello fall!
I went to Old Navy after work the other day and stocked up on the cutest fall sweaters and dresses. I spent a lot more money than I intended. Check out the dresses!
I also bought these really cute textured tights, but they snagged up after wearing them once. I’m going to have to return them because it’s not cool that $10 tights unravel after the first wear.
JD and I are hosting our annual Spooktacular Halloween party on Halloween this year. I can’t wait!
T and I are going to be Bill and Sookie from True Blood. I am making my costume, I hope it turns out cute! Do you have your Halloween costume picked out?
Next week, Little S and I are starting Women’s Health’s Belly Off Club workout. I have been a lazy slob this year, and I really need to lose some weight. I know this is going to be good for me but I’m sure it’s going to kick my butt. Especially rule #5 – No Alcohol for a month! Eek!
People around me have been sick for weeks. I have managed to avoid getting anything for a while, except now I think I may be coming down with a cold. I’m coughing like crazy (which at first I thought was due to inhaling couscous last night, but I don’t think that’s the case) and my head hurts. FML
So, what’s been making you smile or frown lately?
I’ve been a little slack about posting this week, but it is for a good reason. First of all, I have a new client, so I’ve been in overdrive mode getting everything up and running, and learning the ropes. Second of all, I am trying to catch up on my overflowing reader. Sorry if I’m not commenting as much as usual, I’m just trying to read all of your wonderful writings. Slow your roll people and give me a chance to catch up! 🙂
Since my brain feels like mush, I think it’s time for some things that make me smile/frown:
The other night we had a whole 10 minutes of snow flurries in Atlanta. 🙂
It’s freezing out, and they didn’t stick. 😦
It’s supposed to warm up to 60 degrees on Friday, meaning we can go to Sweetwater after work! 🙂
Getting publicity hits for your new client that you’ve only been working with for 2 weeks is such an awesome feeling! 🙂
Not getting date sensitive information from older clients is frustrating and prevents you from moving forward on your projects for them. 😦
Snuggling up under blankets on the couch with your kitties and husband when it’s cold out. 🙂
Eating sweet and juicy clementines! Love them! 🙂
Leggings, warm sweater dresses, and slouchy boots with bows! So comfy and cute! 🙂
The fact that Lipstick Jungle may not be coming back. I love that show and think it’s awesome. How could it not come back?!?! 😦
Going to Cirque du Soleil Kooza with T on Sunday. Can’t wait because I hear it’s awesome! 🙂
What’s got you smiling or frowning these days?
I just told my boss that I am taking off December 22-30 to go to NY for Christmas to see T’s family. Woot! I’m excited. I’m also hoping that she gives us the days between Christmas and New Year’s off again. Last year it was awesome!
I just booked flights for the NY trip for T and I, and they only cost $439 for both tickets. I am beyond stoked about this. All the other tickets I’d looked into were around $300-350 per person! That’s insane. The only crappy thing about our tickets is that we have a layover on the way back. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that there isn’t any bad weather.
This will be the first Christmas I haven’t spent with my immediate family. I’m trying to convince them to go to NY so we can all celebrate together!
My Halloween costume came in the mail yesterday, and it’s slut-tastic. It’s sooo short. Gah, why are we always expected to be half-naked? Hopefully I can find some leggings to wear under it so I feel more covered up and don’t freeze to death.
Woo-hoo, Halloween is almost here! I can’t wait! Now we just need to decide on what we’re doing.
I am in the process of updating these super boring excel sheets that outline our PR plans for our clients. I have to make sure the 2008 ones are up to date and make sure all of the info I entered in for 2009 is accurate. Gag!
One of my co-workers fractured her foot while I was on my honeymoon, about 2 months ago. She is in her mid-50s and acts like her foot was sawed off. It’s insane. When she first injured it, she did all of this crazy stuff so she wouldn’t have to use crutches: she rented this weird scooter thing to get around, she set out rolling chairs all over her house so she wouldn’t have to hobble, etc. It wasn’t even that bad. And she still acts like she just hurt it yesterday, and that she’s a 90 year old who can’t bounce back from an injury. We are all annoyed by this because she constantly complains about it. I.E – She voted early yesterday and had to stand in line for 1.5 hours. Today she says she could barely move it when she got up, even though she’s walking around the office just fine. It’s a minor fracture! Not a shattered bone!
My boss is super sweet, but sometimes she gets so snippy. I don’t think she handles pressure/stress very well. Maybe she’s going through “the change.” It’s really annoying. It also bugs the hell out of me when she walks into my office, drops a paper on my desk, and asks me to fax it to the client. In the time it took her to do that, she could have done it herself. I’m not an intern!
I have a phone conference tonight at 5:30 that usually lasts until 6:30. I hate those. They run so late for us because our client is in another time zone. It would be so much nicer if we could start at 4:30 or 5 so I could leave work at my normal time.
Got any happy/annoying news you want to share/vent about? 🙂
This weekend was nice and relaxing. Friday after work T and I met up with some friends at our local Atlanta brewery’s happy hour/tour. Afterwards, we ended up at Tree to celebrate JD’s last day of class. After dinner and drinks, T and I decided that we needed to call it an early night since we were meeting up with our potential priest on Saturday at noon.
We got up fairly early for a Saturday (10 a.m.) and headed out the door to meet the man who will (more than likely) unite us in holy matrimony. He is a priest from the Reformed Catholic Church, and I found him through my wedding venue. Neither T nor I are devout Catholics, but we would prefer our ceremony to have religious ties to it rather than just being from the justice of the peace. What drew us to this particular priest in the first place is that he can do a Catholic wedding ceremony outside of the church, which is what we are doing since both of our families are from out of town and we didn’t want them to struggle getting around Atlanta. The difference between the RCC and a normal Catholic church is that the RCC is accepting of everyone, no matter if you are gay, straight or divorced. Their concern is focused on the teachings, faith, love, prayer and community without all of the strict restrictions, which is totally up our ally. We are really excited to have discovered this priest and will have to go check out the church!
After our meeting, we gathered up some friends and headed to one of our neighborhood pools for some sun and splashing around. The pool we were at has a little club room that can be rented out, and someone was using it for a small party. They had a radio to keep us entertained, shared some awesome watermelon with us, and at the end brought out some guitars and bongos for a jam session. It was awesome! We were bummed to leave, but we were starving and had some grilling to do. The rest of Saturday was spent gathered on our porch, drinking frozen mojitos and strawberry daiquiris and eating homemade garlic horseradish burgers, bratwurst and corn on the cob. Yummers!
Sunday, T and I woke up and decided to hit the pool again for some more summer sun and relaxation. After about 3 hours, we decided to go home and get ready so we could run some errands at the mall. To T’s chagrin, the mall closed at 6 p.m. on Sunday and by the time we were ready it was 5 till. We skipped shopping for date night at our favorite Mexican restaurant and chowed down on salsa, cheese dip and burritos like the fat kids we are. Afterwards, we doused ourselves in medicated aloe and zoned out to the Food Network.
Without further ado, here are some things that make me smile and frown.
T is staying in town this week! 🙂
He has to start studying like a maniac for the last 2 parts of the CPA and will be busy at night. 😦
We had 2 days of pool time! 🙂
We sort of resemble lobsters. SPF 4 and 6 are obviously not enough protection for first times in the sun. 😦
I am wearing a really comfy cotton dress today! 🙂
I forgot how hoochy short it was and have to be careful about bending over around people. 😦
My freaking bra is killing me because it’s rubbing all over my sunburn. 😦
As I read the blogs of my fellow engaged bloggers, I start to feel a little bit of panic since some of their weddings are pretty far away still, but they have so much more stuff done than I do. I do have a decent amount of things checked off of my lists, but as I read their blogs I realize that there is still so much more to do. So now I will share with you all that I have accomplished so far, and all that I still have to do since my wedding is barely 3.5 months away.
Checked off the list
- Ordered save the dates and sent them out.
- Ordered dress, veil and tiara
- Picked up dress and veil. Tiara is on the way.
- Ordered bridesmaid dresses. They arrive in June.
- Booked the ceremony and reception venue.
- Booked photographer and videographer.
- Booked DJ.
- Scheduled a meeting with a priest that can do a Catholic ceremony outside of the church. We meet with him at the end of May.
- Chose honeymoon destination and paid the down payment. Mayan Riviera, here we come!
- Decided on a cupcake cake and put down the deposit.
- Met with a florist last night who seems awesome and can create kick-ass bouquets and centerpieces that are colorful and unique.
- Booked hotels for the room blocks.
- Helped T’s dad reserve our favorite Greek restaurant for the rehearsal dinner.
- Booked my hair and make up people.
- Scheduled my run through hair and make up.
Clogging up the list since I haven’t done it yet
- Order invitations – I know, I know. I’m a super slacker. I am planning on doing it this week, maybe even today.
- Decide on a time for the ceremony to start so I can order the invitations. I’m thinking 4:30.
- Choose the songs for the wedding.
- Decide on the menu – I think this will happen closer to the date.
- Add a few hours onto the rental so the reception will be longer.
- Decide how I want to wear my hair and make up.
- Actually book the priest.
- Get a marriage license.
- Make the guys look at tuxes and try them on.
- Add more stuff to our registries.
- Pick out my shoes and the bridesmaids’ shoes.
- Get programs made.
- Decide if we should get a limo for our departure. If so, book it.
- Book a nice suite for our first night as newly weds.
- Decide on a wedding ring for me and T.
- Chose the linens for the reception.
- Look into getting a groom’s cake.
- Decide on what kind of favors we want to have.
- Get in shape.
- Decide where I want to go for my bachelorette party.
There’s probably a lot more that I am missing that I can’t think of. Sigh…
The following things put a happy grin on my face:
Going to the gym after work last night, all by myself.
Getting a call from the waiter at my favorite bar telling me it’s opening back up tonight.
Going to my favorite bar for dinner and drinks with JD since it’s Tuesday, and it’s finally open!
Getting free Chick-fil-a at work since we have clients coming to the office (if you have never eaten there, you need to find one, STAT).
Romantic Valentine’s dinner with T at a restaurant we’ve never been to but have heard great things about.
Hanging out with a bunch of friends for the drunken street party known as Oysterfest this Saturday (food + friends + booze = a hell of a lot of fun).
70 degree temperatures in February! (sorry all you frozen Northerners)
Finally cleaning up my messy room and getting rid of two stretchy garbage bags of clothes and shoes I never wear.
The following things put a frown on my face and make me want to punch something:
Having a slow as crap work computer that keeps freezing up (it should not take 40 minutes for it to start back up and load the programs I need to use).
Having a completely technologically challenged co-worker (printing things should really not be so complicated).
Being too tired to get up for the gym this morning (I need to go to bed before 11:30 p.m.).
Having to harass people to return my e-mails (if you just wrote me back, I wouldn’t have to call you all of the time).
The chance that it might rain this Saturday making Oysterfest a soggy mess.
Not having tons of money to do whatever I want with (go to Greece for an awesome honeymoon).
Bad drivers who stay in the left lane when they should not be there.
That my work day is not over yet.
What makes you smile or frown?
